Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Respond to an inflight first aid emergency
  2. Immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others are identified, assessed and managed
  3. A systematic patient assessment allowing for quick identification of at-risk patients is completed
  4. Situation is assessed and assistance is sought from other flight crew or aviation support services
  5. Apply appropriate inflight first aid procedures
  6. Inflight first aid is provided in accordance with established first aid principles
  7. Respectful behaviour towards casualty is displayed
  8. Consent from casualty is obtained where possible
  9. Available aircraft resources and equipment are used to make casualty as comfortable as possible
  10. First aid equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer instructions
  11. Casualty’s condition is monitored continuously and responded to in accordance with first aid principles
  12. Communicate incident details
  13. Details of incident are reported to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  14. Comprehensive patient records are completed and confidentiality of these records and information is maintained in accordance with statutory and/or organisational policies
  15. Evaluate impact of incident on own performance
  16. Individual needs are addressed in debriefing participation
